Chicken wire...

Post by Filonian »

An old man sitting on his front porch watching
the sun rise sees the neighbor's kid walk by carrying something big
under his arm. He yells out "Hey boy, whatcha got there?"

Boy yells back "Roll of chicken wire."

Old man says "What you gonna do with that?"

Boy says "Gonna catch some chickens."

Old man yells "You damn fool, you can't catch chickens with chicken wire!"

Boy just laughs and keeps walking.

That evening at sunset the boy comes walking by and to the old man's
surprise he is dragging behind him the chicken wire with about 5
chickens caught in it.

Same time next morning the old man is out watching the sun rise and he
sees the boy walk by carrying something kind of round in his hand.

Old man yells out "Hey boy, whatcha got there?"

Boy yells back "Roll of duck tape."

Old man says "What you gonna do with that?"

Boy says back "Gonna catch me some ducks."

Old man yells back, "You damn fool, you can't catch ducks with duck tape!"

Boy just laughs and keeps walking.

That night around sunset the boy walks by coming home
and to the old man's amazement he is
trailing behind him the unrolled roll of duck tape
with about 3 ducks caught in it.

Same time next morning the old man sees the boy walking by carrying
what looks like a long reed with something fuzzy on the end.

Old man says "Hey boy, whatcha got there?"

Boy says "It's a pussy willow."

Old man says "Wait up ... I'll get my hat."

Garry

To go really OT there is a brand of duct tape on sale in the UK named Duck Tape. Wasn't this material originally developed for temporary repairs to cover bullet holes on battle damaged aircraft? Also I believe it was to be used on US Navy Skyraiders in the event of a nuclear war. The external armour plate and the outer wing ordnance racks would be removed and the mounting holes taped over to reduce drag.

Could well be Mike :)

They used to put patches one the connon exit hole on the le in the second world war which the first rounf punctured.

I guess they would have used tape had it be around then.

Of if course it may have got it's name if it had been used in a similar way on ducks to stop them sinking :-O :$ 8)

The 'real' stuff (Duck Tape) is pretty much the dogs do-dars and comes in many varieties of application. As an example, a few weeks ago, I nipped into a DIY store to get some masking tape. I could get 4 rolls (a 4 pack) of the stores 'own brand' for the price of 1 roll of Duck Tape Masking Tape :-O Being cheap.. I went for the stores own brand

Wasn't duck tape developed to seal ammo cans from water and other rubbish?

Garry's got it -
It's is duct tape

Duck tape is now a name brand but it's a misnomer of the original name.

Mark is correct on it's first intended use - ammo cases during WWII
but it's properties where soon found to be good for all sorts of repairs
including, but not limited to - repairing airplanes.. sorry aeroplanes.
