Autoland in a Thunderstorm...

Post by petermcleland »

I'm getting on well with my Conversion Course and today managed an Autoland at McLeland Field in pretty wet weather. I had to first insert PAMA with all its fixes, aids, approaches and runways into the iFly database. I also fitted the auxilliary fuel tanks and the spray effect from the reverse thrust on a wet or snowy runway. Here are half a dozen pictures that I took today:-

Thanks for looking :fly:

Looks nice, wonder how well it does the other dangerous approach.

I have not yet tried that Mark, as the wind has favoured 31 for the last week. However, it flies extremely smoothly under FMC management and is fed onto the ILS perfectly with all aids, including the ILS, tuned automatically. When on the Glidepath it grips it extremely well but I will be keen to see how it deals with the sleeper slope of 13. I've flown a couple of manual circuits and landings and I'm also very impressed with that handling. I was not able to autoland the Trident 3 here as the runway proved too short, but this one copes even when overweight :)
