Elgar - Nimrod

Post by nigelb »

Chris, I started this topic here because I promised no more hijacking the 'Nimrod' topic in the Gallary. Anyway, I was a bit surprised to see that Barry Tuckwell has turned to conducting but then I realized he must be in his early eighties and it is not unusual for a star instrumentalist (horn) to turn to conducting at the later stages of their career. "He directs an honest, decent performance of the Variations" notes Gramophone. They reviewed another version by Hilary Davan-Wetton and the London Philharmonic in the same article that received a less favourable review than the version you have.
