Its a sales pitch of course, but interesting to find something original from the manufacturer and in colour. I think the early Harriers were far more aesthetic than the modern ones. It still has some Hunter heritage about it which is less obvious in the current ones.

In those days, men still design them so they couldn't help but make it look good as well as doing the Job

As time goes on and mods and bits are added on,..some that don't even fit causing swelling, bumps and breaks in contour

I like the early ones too......and the Sea Harrier........but the trainers I found just looked all wrong, but of course when you double the seating the lines are going to change

Its funny, I quite like the trainers too, especially the T.2 and the RN's T.8 which looks very striking in its final gloss black scheme. I think you're right though, I work in engineering (albeit nothing related to aviation) and I feel the way people work and design things now has changed. It seems a lot less free spirited and much more dictated by process and function than I think it probably was in the past.

Nowadays, the requirements are put into a computer for designers to get the very best the state of the art can produce. It would be difficult to try and convince their bosses and the customer to change the result to something less efficient just because it's prettier.

Things are really a product of fuction...the Chinook for example, the requirement is for a big box to haul around anything that'll fit in it

A box is just what is is and everything is hung on the outside of that.......any attempt to style the design would compromise it's role.

Although it is still appealing in it's ugliness

Nice find Toby. The GR.3 was always my favorite though.

having worked on all 'proper' Harriers (not the McDonnell version!)
I think the FRS.1 Sae Harrier was the best.
