New 80s RAF Gütersloh Scenery

Post by WhisperJet »

Gentlemen,

just discovered that there is a new freeware Gütersloh scenery on final.
The forum is in german and says it's aimed to reflect the end-80s era.

For those interested... (pictures are multilingual) ;)

If you like I can write them a post to come and have their say here!

Cheers,

Nick

That looks good, I was there in the early 80's but do not really play in FS9 much anymore! Looks from the screenshot like Peter has got there already! We used to have BCal trooping 1-11's at about that time, not BEA Tridents ;)

This is the same Gütersloh scenery that is being developed over at the Airfield Construction Group by manschy. As someone who did two tours at Gütersloh I can only marvel at the detail and work that has gone into this scenery. It is really looking good and I can't wait to get this one on my computer. :welldone: :welldone:

This is bad news - I was there as a teenager with my ole man (4sqn RIC) from 1977-80 and, whilst not located at Güt, (but at Wildenrath..... strangely) I was also a part of JHSU/SHF support for 18 & 230 Sqns from 1986 to 1989. Best posting I ever had. When the tour was up I PVR'd. Couldn't face going back to a 'normal' unit :)

I have a scenery for FSX that was released a year or so ago. It is fairly accurate, but rather sparse.

I've also been using the German VFR scenery and flying all around the old bases at which I used to serve. Good fun.

Shame this is FS9 :(

Incidentally, for those who are interested, I recently had a look at the old RAF Wildenrath camp on Google Earth. Not much remains of it at all. The runway has almost all been torn up and the road layout is, to my memory, unrecognisable. Feels very weird - like having existed in a netherworld... *-)

JD

edit - ah, didn't see this bit:
Gleich vorweg: Ja, die Airbase ist auch für den FSX vorgemerkt....
Life is good again!

I too have been following this with interest as I lived there with my old feller.............Twice. From 1962 -1964 then onto Wildenwrath for a year! Then again in 1969 to 1971 and only three doors up the road from our last AMQ! Thats after being told when he put in for an overseas posting, he was unlikely to go to Germany again!

having contacted Manfred about his new Gütersloh, he said he may be able to Retro it abit further ie, remove the Chinnook hangar which wasn't there in the late sixties early seventies!

Heres hoping!

Add up a few Vulcans and Hunters and there's that authentic taste of the good old 1980s.....and lucky enough, the author says that this is for FSX as well! It's a shame we don't have these sceneries that much anymore.

But once again, another five stars for that splendid screenshot and level of detail!

I don't fly Chipmunks - therefore I should be ranked as an Auster!

I was stationed not far from Gütersloh for about 15 years altogether but honestly can not remember seeing Vulcans over Germany, pretty sure they were never based at Gütersloh, flown in and out of there on RAF VC 10 to Canada, RAF Britannia to Lybia and BAC 1-11 to UK

Looks great :) Think they will include the local kebab shop serving gyros pita?

Another great exmample of how little knowledge you really have....yet you feel you can judge everyone and everything????

I hope you do research better when you make all those promised models
