A very... no make that Extremely important Query

Post by airboatr »

I've just finnished installing FSX - SP1 , SDK , SP1a and SP2 onto a new computer (not mine) into the Programs Files folder (not the Programs Files (x86) folder
of a Win 7 64 bit Laptop. It's all working very well , But now I have reservations I should have installed it into the (x86) Programs Files folder....

am I headed for trouble with compatibility regarding addons ....... :worried:

The 32 & 64 bit folders are so you can have both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of programs installed without similar named files overwriting themselves there is nothing special about them.

Ps. installers for addons have the option to change the path, most default to x86, some still just Program Files. As long as you install them to the right folder where your FSX is they will work. If by some very rare instance it doesn't give you the opportunity to change the path (poor installer) it will probably go to Program Files/ anyway as it will most likely be an old addon that doesn't know about Program Files(x86).

Most installers will get the FSX folder location from the registry so it shouldn't matter where they are.

Thanks for that gents. I did choose 'more options' during the install and put it on the D: partition of the hard drive, so it's
D: Program Files/Microsoft Games/FSX
Like I say it runs great .. In fact I can't believe how well it is performing on this laptop.
It's a 5i 2.53 Ghz with 4 gig DDR3 1066 speed memory
Nvidia Geforce 310m graphics

running very smoothly with high settings but not close to max
still nicer than my desktop setup though....
