How do I create some custom AI traffic?

I don't know where to put this thread.

Hi Ad..

There are two ways.. payware or freeware. You can buy (or download for free an old version) My Traffic or find a program called TTools by Lee Swordy (it's available at all the main sites).
Pros.. My Traffic has a nice user interface allowing you to tick boxes.. it doesn't require any real knowledge to make it work
Cons.. but it may damage what you already have.
Pros.. TTools is free
Cons.. but it has a steep learning curve.

Download TTools and read the instructions. You HAVE to read the instructions to have any idea of what is going on.

Hello AD -
Go here:
http://simviation.com/fs2004utilities1.htm

and download Traffic Tools by Lee Swordy. While you are there, grab AFCAD2 as well.
Install it, start TTools up and click on help to see the User Manual. It is still the best primer for D-I-Y AI traffic.
Once you have a handle on the basics, check out yRoute, a useful tool for checking your work:
http://www.spacejock.com/yRoute.html
Another useful tool is AITM, for making large-scale changes without heaps of precise typing:

BTW - don't try to make amphibian AI land wheels down on land and wheels up on water...that way lies madness! :wall: :wall: :wall: :agree:

I may try some of the suggestions and see what happens.

Well.. if you don't, you won't have any custom AI

When you say custom AI, do you mean you want to make your own or.. do you want AI other than the default? If you want to see traffic that would appear in your area, you could go to www.world-of-ai.com/allpackages.php .. select a package and install it (you need to download their installer too which is near the top of the list). These packs contain the flights and aircraft for each schedule and will auto-install (advisable) into flightsim. The packs can be manually installed too but I wouldn't try and do that just yet as you don't know one end of a traffic file from the other. If you're feeling brave, you can try and load them manually but will need TTools if you want the traffic files decompiled. This may come with the installer.. I can't remember now *-)

I mean putting my own AI together so I can try out a few scenery addons that don't have AI with them

That's what I thought you meant but asked anyway ;)

Download TTools then spend some time reading the manual. The manual is a little out of date and you'll almost certainly get a warning when you open TTools that the program is also out of date but don't worry.. the 'available' version is the latest.

To get you started.. tell me where you want traffic to go from and to and I'll make you a traffic.bgl file to make that flight (those flights) happen using default aircraft. You can then decompile it with TTools and play to your hearts content. Give me the airport ICAO codes too ;)

Creating your own A1 is gr8 fun. But beware it can become very addictive. There is a neat little download called "Traffic View Board" which enables you to view the A1 traffic. With this tool you have an option of selecting an A1 flight and you can watch the whole flight from start to finish. Its a cool little utility to have. Available at Avsim/Flightsim.. :)

Addictive is the right word mate.. I spent a happy (and not so happy) fortnight recently compiling traffic files and getting traffic/models until I realised I'd been consumed into the Matrix. :worried: The end result.. compromise  Some traffic really shouldn't be there but I like seeing it so it stays and nothing works when I go back as far as the Rapide/Lancastrian/Halton/York/Viking. I could make it work of course but I've managed to drag myself out of the downward AI spiral and am happy to operate the oldies as 'pleasure flights' so the only ones that appear for now are the ones I'm flying

All this started (this time around) after buying the Palma/Mallorca scenery. It looks great on the screenies but the traffic shown is AI (all of it) and there are no statics so landing there is like flying into a holiday version of 'I am Legend'.. without the mutant
