Just a quckie, what is the better aircraft VC-10, or the VC-11, sorry BAC 1-11!?

Far too open a question to answer Gavin. They both have their good points and were both designed and built to carry out a specific role.

On the strength of this.. I have not voted but I'll be interested to see what the others think

For a trans-Atlantic flight I think I'd prefer to fly in the VC-10 instead of the 1-11. Which is *better*? It's a toss-up in my book.

Probably because the 1-11 would have run out of fuel, unless fitted with Long Range tanks....!

Admittedly, both amazing aircraft. Off to Duxford tomorrow to take many pics of them!

Erm... Flawed poll, as said above. But I'll vote 1-11, for the two-crew cockpit and because I've been on one!

The VC-11 design had 4 Speys.

Imagine the noise.

Never got chance to do the VC10 (unless the RAF can be persuaded to do some enthusiast flights....I'm sure in the spirit of Public-Private Partnership it could be done) but I did get some 1-11 "haulage" in before Maersk got rid of theirs at BHX. I do therefore have a soft spot for the 1-11 especially as we are roughly the same age (42)

On the noise issue I was in a car supermarket right under the flight path for the main runway at BHX one Saturday when they were taking off over it. Several Boering 737's took off and were reasonably quiet. Then a Maersk-BA 1-11 took off, all smoke and noise, and triggered every single car alarm in the place! Completely mental! God alone knows what it would have been like with a Trident or for that matter a Comet.
