Great shots, Eric. Thanks for sharing. Love the C-47! In my personal opinion nothing looks better on vintage aircraft than polished aluminum!

Don't dare say that in front of any of the Histo-Nazis at the air shows. You'll be roundly corrected for liking such a non-historic thing as 'polished aluminum' on a warbird (despite the fact there's documented evidence of it even if not widespread or "normal"). :)

I like polished aluminum too personally, but I would hate to be the one having to keep up the polish. They showed polishing the Liberty Belle (a B-17) and it took a lot of work with a lot of power tools.

 Yeah I'm sure I won't win any popularity contests among purists when it comes to my aesthetic preferences for WWII warbirds. Polishing one of those beasts must take equal parts patience and elbow cartilage...both of which I lack in abundance...but I tip my hat to the men & women who keep those birds so pristine!

Thanks for sharing the pictures Eric. Is the first picture of the B-17?

The "Memphis Belle" in the film is in reality "Sally B", I think?? Nice collection. I have a draw full of slides I might scan, one day

Was curious to know what went on at Mildenhall so just had a look on google maps. I saw one arbitrary road, Pollards Lane which seemed to go "almost in" to the base so switched to Google Street view that its a crash gate to the airfield that appears to be guarded by two Yucca plants. I kid ye not.

Yes it's still on the starboard side of the nose.
