There has been a programme for a while now to gradually move the A.320 series assembly out of Toulouse as the bigger aircraft come on stream..long time project

Germany are taking a bigger share and there is the Chinese line

Recently Lufthansa received a new A.320.the first aircraft assembled in the new factory in Tunisia.

Why or why is nothing ever moved to the UK....there are factories with the labour sitting on airfields that might soon close as the work dries up

The A.380's are built in Toulouse then flown to Germany for finishing

Many A.320 series from Frankfurt to Dinard for painting......again...anywhere but the UK

When UK firms fond themselves in a group with a factory abroad it seems the UK one is always the one to shut...like Heller Airfix And Mecanno going to France and the Bryant and May Matches...lots of things

The Government need to both encourage this sort of thing moving to the UK and discourage things moving out

I just don't understand this.

I know what'll happen

After all the remaining aircraft factories have close and the airfield built over some Government bod will tell us there are moves to try and bring production to the UK but no facilities now exist

It's like local banks closing. Head offices slowly remove functionality from sub branches so if you want to do something simple like open an account, it has to be done at a main branch. Eventually, you get to a stage where all the sub branch can do is cash cheques and pay bills so they're shut.. as my local HSBC will do next month. My account has been moved from a 10min walk down the road to Reading.. big deal. Can't see me ever going there!! There is a larger sub branch at Pangbourne (3 miles away) so not only will the Goring closure save the bank money, it will cost me more to have to drive the 3 miles each way to Pangbourne. HSBC.. the Worlds Local Bank.

Same happens with the aircraft industry and has been doing for many moons.

Why should any foreign owned company
move their production to a non-participating country or company ?

Broughton and Filton are now owned by Airbus,
are you saying they're shutting ?

BAE Systems no longer has any say in Airbus
having sold up in 2006,
and using those funds to purchase US defence firms.

Nothing directly to do with BAe

All I'm saying is why not build in the UK?....they built a new factory in Tunisia where as there are facilties in the UK that could be developed and if BAE were to shut a factory that could be an option to take it and the staff on, they are all likely to run down over time.


Over the years things generally move out of the UK.

In all idustries too.

Afraid it's happening everywhere Garry,

I'm inspecting parts for the Trent Industrial engines that used to be made in the UK, now they are arriving from China!!!.

I read yesterday that Uk tax payers are shelling out 1 million pounds a month for empty factory space, obviously ear marked for cancelled government contracts.
But it isn't harming the companies much, RR are about to announce another year of record profits and full order books!!.

Won't put bread on the table for UK workers though?.

Could it be Aerolia - An Airbus subsidiary, with a factory In Tunisia -
- A local network of subcontractors (750 persons by 2014)
- Elementary parts manufacturing

Most likely that allvoices post should have read -
Aerolia has recently delivered the first Airbus aircraft containing components manufactured at the Tunisian El Mghira Factory, to the German company "Lufthansa".

It could just be that, but it doesn't alter my concerns that in international collaboration when there is expansion the UK is left out and when there is contraction the UK is first
