I thought I had a large backlog of plastic kits that I have bought over the past 25 yrs, namely approx 10 Tamiya 1:12 scale F1 car kits, and about 15 aircraft kits but these guys put me to shame

Ee-gads! :-O Put's my 3 to shame

Those Tamiya 1:12 were good weren't they. I had the Emerson Fitipaldi John Player Lotus and Jackie Stewarts Tyrell (I think they were 1:12) at my folks but when I asked about them, it seems they've disappeared without a trace *-) :dunno:

They were very good. I stopped building aircraft kits and and stuck (no pun intended) with Tamiya.
In my loft I have:

Graham Hill Lotus 49
Jacky Ickx Ferrari 312
Jackie Stewart Tyrrell 001
Niki Lauda Ferrari 312T4
Reutemann Brabham BT44
Rene Anoux Renault
Jody Sheckter Wolf WR1
Mario Andretti JPS Lotus 78
Prost/Senna McLaren MP4
Jody Sheckter Ferrari
Prost Ferrari

Protar
Villenueve Ferrari

I built most of them before, but most of them suffered the same fate as yours Dave. I got most of the kits when I have been in France. There is a very good model shop in Tulouse and another one in Paris. I have just got to hope my company keeps buying Airbus aircraft so i can go back to these shops.

Might the Lotus I had have been Mario Andretti? Bugger.. can't remember now. I'm sure it was Emerson Fitipaldi but if I had to put money on it, I'd not bet

When in Portugal at Nato some years ago, there was a model shop there that sold classic motorbike models. Can't remember the name now but they weren't English. Must have had 14 or more when I came back to the UK and wish I still had em now. Unfortunately, the offspring with that particular excursion into marriage smashed em all up when he was a tiddler :( They weren't up to the quality of the Tamiya kits.. any Tamiya kit but they weren't bad and had some nice touches.

They did a JPS Lotus 72 with Emmo. It was the next kit they produced after the Stewart Tyrrell

What a great sight!

I think Tamiya were the RR of kits back in the 70's,
I have now been reminded of a Tamiya 1/12th Honda F-1 i built and i had finnished it and left it on top of the TV in my front room, my sister-in-law was on a visit with my nephew and we were in the kitchen when someone said , the children are quiet, i can see it now, i went into the front room to see the nephew sitting on the floor in front of the tele with 4 wheels/springs/suspension etc spread all around the carpet!

That was 40 yrs ago and of course they did not have the glues of today and for years afterwards all i had left to remember that was the driver out of it in my parts box, i have not mentioned it since to my nephew who is now an engineer at Jaguars and i doubt he would remember it but it was my fault leaving it about, he thought it was proberly a big Dinky toy!! i can laugh now but at the time, have you seen a man WEEP!

Just looking at Tamiya's 1/12 F1 kits today i can't believe they are in excess of £100 :-O

Cheers,

Roger.

Ahh.. the Lotus 72.. that's the tinker  Cheers Paul ;)

I dunno about the cost of em now.. I remember they were darned expensive when originally released. I looked at both of mine for ages before I could resist no more and bought em both. Think I was on leave at the time and they took a fair whack of my wages but for me to be skint was nothing new.. it's still like that now

I was 'into' Tamiya WWII stuff then too.. 1:32 if my memory serves. Stonkin' models and great figures too. Nice how the mouldings used to fit.. something that rarely happened with Airfix 8)
