Why is it I'm not surprised to read of this kind of thing?

I'm not talking about the claims of, basically, shoddy maintenance - in the Royal Signals at least, equipment maintenance was something we were meticulous about in my time - I'm talking about the apparent attempts to withold the facts.

In fact, the more I hear about the way things are run in the MOD and admin of the separate forces (such as the recent Dispatches program about the MOD's procurement practices), the more I'm inclined to recommend youngsters to stay well away these days.

This will not lie down until somebody actually comes clean within the MOD, something that may have to wait 'till hell freezes over', I am afraid. Virtually everybody with the SH fraternity knows what really happened, but their words count for nothing when it comes down to what was lost and the terrible Government cover up is too deep to extracate themselves (the Ministers/Civil Servants that is) from without severe punishments being risked!
