Camping ain't what it used to be.....

Post by DelP »

...that's under-canvas camping before anyone makes a comment

I've just returned from four days away with my son in my (t)rusty VW campervan.

The family in the tent next door seem to have brought everything from home except the kitchen sink. The TV was turned on when they got up and stayed on all day. In the open 'kitchen' area at the front was a microwave, small rotisserie oven and 'electric' bbq *-)

The tent was lit inside with enough electric light to make it visible from space and during the night the sound that I thought was wind in the trees and waves on the beach turned out to be their convection heaters which they had running all night. Their cars stayed parked, they went nowhere, just sat in the tent and watched TV. Yesterday I heard one of the occupants shouting into their mobile... 'We're away camping, shame the weather isn't better...' Luckily Sam and I were just leaving for the swimming pool as I noticed one of them hooking up a gas canister with a cigarette dangling from his mouth.......

I must be getting old, when I was a kid camping was an adventure...... 8)

Anyway, I'll be glad to get into my own bed tonight and get the crick out of my back.....the top bunk in a pop-top VW Westy isn't meant for anyone longer than 5 foot 6........ :-#

Derek :)

My wife would swap me for a VW campervan, probably throw in the hounds to sweeten the deal.

Bloody hell, when I go camping the only luxury I take with me is a hexi burner and a set of mess tins!
