Interesting John
This current BBC story still mentions the lack of carrier bourne aircraft until the new carrier is in service.

Well 900,000 people are going to have their incapacity benefits taken away as they have been deemed to be fit for work so maybe the money saved will pay for it.
That's approximately £75million a week or £3.9 billion a year incorrectly paid out.
Pay for a lot of Harriers will that, and the overspend on HMS Queen Elizabeth.

They'd be back in service just in time for the end of the Libyan "problem". Besides, the GR4 and Typhoon are doing quite nicely, aided by the VC10 amongst others. I suspect there are other issues that are not necessarily in the public domain which make even the basic concept not even worthy of a mention as a workable plan, let alone one with a realistic chance of getting off the ground.
Anyway, all these people saying there hasn't been a British carrier in the med, hasn't Invincible been there the whole time?

Well until they make up their mind it does allow the RAF Chaps "stationed" in 4 Star Hotels in Southern Italy to top up their tans poolside.

Sadly the reality is quite different to that some people would like you to believe. Hotels may be involved (certainly not 4*, more top of the range youth hostel, and definitely no pool), and the places aren't quite holiday destinations (unless you call the Italian equivalent of Hull a holiday destination). There is of course also another reason why aircrew and groundcrew are put in hotels; to ensure they get adequate rest to do a job where a fatigue induced mistake could easily be fatal.
Then consider the cuts to allowances, and it actually costs us money to be away from home for 40-50% of the year. It's a novel way of doing things...
