Good find there John.

Now for the million dollar question.
If they were doing training and they had a radio to contact the pilot after the srub, why didn't they
have someone at the ready to warn the pilot his gear wasn't down.

And don't anyone say it's because the Polish do things "bakards"

Its been done before plenty of times.....My father told the story of a particular USN Ensign that was seconded to Castle Archedale to fly PBYs - they had a mix of 5 and 5a's......Said Ensign was tasked to ferry a
PBY5 from Loch Erne to Belfast for heavy maintenance.......he forgot to notice when the crew boat took him to the aeroplane on the Loch that is was a % and NOT a 5a....the gear handle for the floats on the 5 was the same as the gear handle on the 5a (and did about the same thing) so he took off cycled the gear up (so he thought) and then whe he arrived at Belfast lined up put the "gear" down and sailed down the runway on the Cats keel....so......CL215 or PBY its been done and will probably happen again....just so happened they didnt have digital cameras in 1943

OK, right
It does happen all to often as I've been aware of them happening at LNA.
And in fact had to remind the pilot of a certain V35 to lower the gear on approach.
(Which is why I won't fly with the man anymore)
So why wasn't there someone available for radio contact throughout the circiuts.

I watched a Venom land gear up at Biggin Hill Airshow a few years ago.
You could ask why the tower or display bods didn't warn the pilot. But the gear is quite hard to spot
on a Venom with drop tanks.

It's a small strip - no ATC. Didn't have radio until after the incident when the guy in the 2nd aircraft got on the radio. During the event, they were busy warming it up so they didn't see what happened.

For you, but I watched a guy at Centennial Airport (KAPA) land a Cessna 182RG gear up despite the Tower, 2 other airplanes in the pattern, and an instructor on the ground all yelling (literally) that his gear wasn't down.

Radio or not - when it happens, there doesn't seem to be much anyone can do to prevent it.

As the old adage goes - "There are those who've landed gear up and those who will."

Ho ho...that was in the last series....The new series starts this Thurday on Quest....the trailers on UK TV shoes assorted cockpit shots, lading on icy runwsys, then the..."You can always tell an Ice Pilot....by the size of his skidmarks"
