Surprised I'd not seen a thread here already.

The final release of the Dassault Etendard IVM/P along with the latest version of the carrier Clemenceau is out - http://royalefrenchnavy.gratisim.fr/FSX_Creations.htm

Both fantastic. :) Video here as well - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNPfJ0pkrzw

These are superbly done models, the Entendard cockpit is particularly fine and carrier operations with the LSO feature all add to the fun. Add the zephyr into the mix for basic training and you have a well, thought out package. There's some French Naval Airfields also to try out with practice traps, but I haven't had a chance to install them yet.

Downloading all the bits now, with the help of Google Translate, too.

The beta was very good.

I have a question, though - will FSX give me the mission texts etc in English?

Also - the "Brins & Mirroirs" download has this translation from Google:
* Before going on board, it is recommended FSX (required in real life) to obtain the qualification ASSP (Deck Landing Simulated On Track). You need to install the device and mirror team stranded the bases of Lorient Lann-Bihoué (LFRH) Landivisiau (LFRJ), the Palyvestre Hyères (LFTH) and Nîmes-Garonne (LFTW).

There is no decision-stranded scheduled sessions of ASSP. The ASSP pin is on the band left half of the runway while taking occurs obligatorily stranded on the axis in the middle of the track.

The final scenes of Tony Mézières are equipped with this device. The scene has Occitania VFR mirror and strands in Nîmes-Garonne.
Can I take it that this is some form of practice device for deck landings that will be available at the listed aerodromes?

If so, is there any point in me installing it as a non-French speaker?

I don't know as I've not downloaded them yet. Only had time the other day to check out and fly the plane then look around Clemenceau.

On the scenes page, there are some French Naval Air Stations, some have a replication of the lamp and mirrors system used on the carrier with cables to trap the aircraft. These are used for practice and qualification before transitioning to the carrier proper.

On the Creations RFN page, you can see the lights and mirror device.

I haven't had time to try these out yet, but the LSO for the carrier uses American English, the documentation has been in French and English so far, so give the missions a try and see what you get.

Has anyone else found that you can outmanoeuvre a Raptor in this Etendard?

No - but I have found something that made me chortle, on a South American based games forum.

It has an FSX section and some person (probably of Argie origin - lots of them on there) has built an add-on for FSX which covers the Falklands/Malvinas War, as seen from the Argie side.

The main emphasis is on flying Étendard aircraft and firing Exocet missiles at British ships or flying a Skyhawk or Pucara down "Death Alley" San Carlos Water - with the same objective.

Shame they didn't add a "NAAFI manager on a GPMG" option! :excited:
