Diverting

Quick one:

Is there much difference (if any) these days with diverting compared to a few years ago?

Apart from a situation like Peter mentioned (Standing water at Edinburgh) - presumably authority rests with the Captain - but what sort of leeway was / is involved? Would there be much in the way of 'questions asked'?

I would have thought that the condition of the runway was the responsibility of the airport.

So if there was any deviation from the safe status then the runway would be closed? *-)

If is open then it can be deemed safe so the captain would have nothing to decide as he is up there and has to rely on those who are there and no to monitor the status. :worried:

Weather as regards wind and visibility is something different as that can vary with different types and airline procedures and even to the licensing of the pilot.

Icing is maybe one condition where the runway is open at the discretion of the commander.

This is just my speculation

Wonder how real pilots see this :hide:
