Don't get how that's the oldest jet

Pretty certain T.7s didn't exist until well
after WWII and indeed according to the CAA this aircraft was built in 1949. Was it converted from an F.1?

Well that's the media for you!
They write it as if that particular one first flew in 1943, when they mean the prototype!
This particular one, WA591, was completed in August 1949 and delivered to the RAF on September 2nd, so it is even older than Martin-Bakers's WA638 which left the factory in November of that year.
I think it's a safe bet to assume it is the oldest flying jet in the UK at the moment - Even older than VC10s!!

The F-86A Sabre at Duxford is the UK's and the worlds oldest flying jet at the moment.
