Anybody smell smoke?

Hi Folks,

I've watched some rather interesting footage at work this morning. It was shown as part of an aviation safety package that's delivered to newbies.

Interestingingly I found the same clip on YouTube with added sound and subtitles. ;)

I found the footage fascinating. Even the firefighters seemed to cack themselves a few times.

I think I'd cack myself too! Fire is one of the few things which petrify (and strangely, fascinate) me. The tyres go with quite a pop don't they!

(I don't know why I read this topic so quickly, must be the title and the fact I'm 4 days into giving up the fags!!)

Wasn't this on here a long time ago?

Ah yes, 3 years ago from Nigel H-J : http://www.cbfsim.org/cb-bb/viewtopic.p ... re#p154421

Fire was scaring those guys up front - definitely wanting stairs to get out.

Yep, that's an old one, been using it in my classroom for a few years now. Interestingly it's not the tires that blow (something which shouldn't normally occur as the fuse plugs should melt first) but the wheels themselves were not up to scratch and they broke.

Scary stuff, couldn't believe that they allowed it to go untended for so long!
I wrote the following in my girlfriend's autograph book 45 years ago**, it immediately came to mind while watching:

"A little fire is quickly trodden out; Which, being suffered, rivers cannot quench."

William Shakespeare (1564-1616), King Henry VI
Act iv, Sc. 8

(and yes, we celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary next month)**

Well (Mr) Otter, being one of the kindest characters in my favourite childhood story, "The Wind in the Willows", I happily give you 100% support. I gave the coffin nails up (and my pipes and cigars), 30+ years back. At the moment, you remember how many days and hours...in time you'll forget exactly how many years, and your heart will break when you see teenagers doing the same stupid thing that you did. If you need moral support, just ask.
