Only in FS9 'As Real As It Gets' could you have a Full Moon that's not opposite to the Sun

Perhaps it's different on their planet

"That's no moon, that's a space station"

I must stop with the Star Wars quotes.

Nice Aurora :)

Thanks for sharing those pix, Garry! Very atmospheric.

Regarding the comments about FS9:

I feel sorry for you guys in the polluted parts of this beautiful planet!
In The Lucky Country our skies are clear enough to actually see the Moon, planets and stars, so we know what they look like.
The Moon is often out at the same time as the Sun. It can be seen in a blue sky.

I've yet to check the exact view from the pictured location on "Home Planet 3",[ which I've had for years, and is FREE if you're interested in the night sky ], but I'd imagine that close to The Land of the Midnight Sun, the FS9 rendition is very likely accurate. OK, the coast is not so hot, but then, it's covered in ice, ain't it? :fly:

The sky is not polluted where I live and I can see the Moon and starts clearly

I know the Moon and Sun can be out together... The Full Moon and Sun can't be like that

The Full Moon is opposite the Sun, so should be behind the 'camera', out of sight.......in that position the Moon should be gibbous a bit more than half here, not full

Locally I can see the Moon in the daytime when quite a thing crescent....I even can see Venus in the daylight sometimes even Jupiter before it gets dark. :)

The Moon is often wrong in FS9 with the lit bit facing the wrong way. :$

BTW my system is not very good and the coastlines are poor and rendered very inaccurately, but even on a good system the FS.9 default is very bad.

Very nice pictures even so Garry.

In FSX the coastline is of course rounded as it should be ;)

Haven't checked the moon-phases though ... but I might take the same trip as you in the Yukon to check it out ...

Hi again Garry, :hello:
I'm truly glad your skies are clear, and you can see all that stuff. I'd heard that apart from airborne particles, light pollution takes a heavy toll around Britain these days.
I've found a whole discussion in flightsim.com, from which these two are copied, one by a gentleman known to us here I believe:

The correct phase is shown but the angle of the lit portion of the Moon is missaligned...it should point directly towards the Sun. However, it has been bugged and noted for a future version.

I always wondered if the stars were random or if they were accurate.
COULD you effectifly naviate by them in FS? Somewhat accuratly? They way
they did with sextants?
Well, according to a post from SPOFF in that thread I quoted earlier ...

"... there is a 'Virtual Airline' forum.. 'DC3 Airways' where they actually USE Celestial Navigation in FS 2004, using a addon 'Bubble Sextent' that someone developed. This goes to show how acurate the sky really is portrayed in FS 2004. Talk about 'As Real as it Gets'..."

Much of the early discussion centred around whether you were using "system" time or not, and the effect on the moon phase may be connected with your default flight details. Different results can also stem from launching a default flight then switching aircraft.
Do you recall the time and date of your flight from these pix? And how you launched the flight? It might be interesting to compare them with the available real data. You never know, there may be a simple cure.
I downloaded autostrx.zip tonight but haven't unzipped it yet.

In closing, I have two real Mark IX bubble sextants, but when I looked at them today, the bubbles were gone. They must be floating around somewhere!

Hi Mike

Where I live we don't even have street lamps everywhere and most that are there go off at midnight.

Riding a push bike can be very dangerous as you just can't see where you're going as bike lights have very little effect it's so dark.

The phase is not correct...the position is probably right

It is showing a Full Moon but that was ten days after the Full Moon

The lit up part of lunar phases points the wrong way.

It's something I've been aware of since day one of my FS.9

One thing I've not checked is the it should be upside down in the Southern Hemisphere compared to the North
