DH9 FSX Mixture

Hello All,

Can I just say that the new FSX DH9 is fantastic, thanks DG!!

I have a question about it though. When I get up to a cruise, normally about 4500, 5000' once I'm clear of contolled space, I adjust the mixture, watch the rev counters to know when I'm at the right mix and... nothing seems to happen.

Is it me (probably is, I know! :doh: ) or do I need to be looking somewhere else. I know some aircraft are best leaned using the Cylinder Head temperature.

There are two possible scenarios for the Rapides mixture.. RICH or WEAK. Furthermore, depending on the operator, this could be cut to one option.. RICH :) If I can give 2 examples from documentation I hold, BEA wire-locked the mixture control to RICH as far back as the early 60's leaving the pilot to fly by RPM alone. Coming closer to home, Air Atlantique specify RICH for everything.. there is no mention in their SOP's of WEAK so it's safe to assume that WEAK is not used at all. AA fly using RPM as an measure of speed and fuel consumption.

Somewhere along the line, WEAK has been removed from operation manuals so use it at your peril :lol: Best guess is that you'll be running one minute and not the next ;)

Hi Paul,

the mixture should work ok, although it is limited by hidden code so the mixture levers cannot advance past the throttle levers.

Referring to the Proctor pilots notes, the mixture control was either WEAK or RICH. WEAK was only for maximum range where one kept the boost & RPM low as well as airspeed. Otherwise the mixture control on the Gipsy Queen II's were automatic. I suspect that the Queen I's were similar. The Proctor throttlebox was also interlinked so that on closing the throttle for the descent, it automatically went to RICH. Now in FS9 ( & possibly FSX) I suspect that the inbuilt logic does not follow this sequence, neither does the start sequence for Queen II's where one starts in Coarse pitch! I certainly failed in my sim Proctors in that respect!

The mixture does revert to rich when the throttles are closed. Rich it is then!!
