Hello Peter. I've been following your exploration with interest and a bit of jealousy. I purchased Tongass Fjords for FSX and I've been waiting for you to fly into the area so I can compare the Flight scenery with Holger Sandmann's! To be fair though, my system is really struggling to run it and I'm subject to occasional out-of-memory warnings. I have the money put aside for an upgrade but I've decided to wait for Windows 8. Meanwhile, if I stick to the default aircraft, I can do a reasonable amount of flying but my machine probably doesn't do the scenery justice.

These screenshots are relevant to the pictures you've posted on Mutley's Hangar but I hope you don't mind me posting them here. Ketchikan is outside the Tongass Fjords area so there's no point in following you there! As with all of Sandmann's scenery there's plenty of movement with AI ships, boats, aircraft, vehicles and seabirds.

Waterfall. I can't find a waterfall but there's plenty of scenery to keep me busy!

If we could combine the natural scenery from Flight with the habitation and AI from Tongass we could be on to a winner!

Hi Ian...Yes I have all of Holger's scenery in my FS9...The Ketchikan area is in Misty Fjords and adjoins the Tongass Fjords scenery. Tongass in turn adjoins the Glacier Bay scenery which comes into the McLeland Field area. My next major airport destination is Sitka and that is in the Tongass scenery...In my opinion Sitka is the "Star" of Holger's Tongass scenery and I will be very surprised if Flight is as good as that. I might get there tomorrow :)

Wonderful shots, as always, Peter. Sitka looks as though it has possibly more detail than Holger's scenery! Is it static or is there any dynamic AI? I'm very impressed by the scenery in Flight but I think I'm going to stick with FSX and, when I get my more powerful laptop, buy some more scenery to expand the Tongass area.

I read in the Tongass support forum that Holger is no longer working with his old team and is developing for ORBX. So there will not be an FSX update for Misty Fjords. However, ORBX has released Holger's new FSX scenery which covers much of the Misty Fjords area under the name of FTX Pacific Fjords. It's compatible with and blends into Tongass Fjords X so looks just the ticket. http://www.fullterrain.com/product_napfj.html

Anyway, thanks for the pictures. I'll try not to get in your way while I'm bumbling about the area!

Ian :)

Ian,

Everything is static...I have not seen anything move in FLIGHT except the clouds, the water and the trees in the wind. I am hoping that eventually there will be Traffic and ATC...I'm still keen to get the VC for the Carbon Cub and I believe it is the next DLC :)

No, I think Holger's Sitka is very much more detailed but that is what I would expect. This is, after all, the whole of Alaska for 10 quid! In general I find the quality of the scenery in FLIGHT's Alaska just excellent and really love exploring it in VFR and without navaids except a map. Every flight is a great adventure and reminds me so much of going off in a fighter as a singleton to just enjoy flying...One did not get very many of those as you were normally at least a pair and more often a four with some sort of training mission to complete. My favourite singleton sorties were in the Rift Valley.

I tried your idea of using the iPad as a kneepad and using google maps to navigate. What a brilliant idea. You would have loved one of those back in the day!

I thought something was missing from Sitka and I've just added the WoAI Alaska Airlines package to get the occasional big jet into the terminal! The perimeter road is busy with trucks as well.
