Thanks for that mate. Hardly surprising given the numbers here that use it. While I wouldn't say we're all at the 'cutting edge'.. we usually have a fair representation of simmers that cover everything that's available but to my knowledge, there's only Peter who's a 'Flight' regular. There may be others but Peter is the only one openly admitting it!

I never really had an opinion
I always felt it was wrong to compare it to FS as it was in a league of it's own and I often said as such in the name of fairness.
What was clear is it was not for me and perhaps no enough for the shoot it up mass brigade out there in gameland.
It probably was very good at what it was supposed to be but that was not what the market wanted.
Like certain new flavours of crisps and the like...they try them some love 'em but as a general market product it fails.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what it is, if not enough want it...history.
It was though clear that it would never appeal to the FS masses, the lack of facilitating 3rd party support saw it as a non starter.

I liked it and thought it was heading in the right direction and, when planning a spec for my next laptop, I wanted to have some built in expansion with an idea to jump on the bandwagon when they released the inevitable 737

.
Now I don't have to do that so I can plan for FSX plus a few add-ons and I can get a build with more moderate specifications. That releases a wedge of dosh for the new carbon mountain bike I've got my eye on for next year

. As that's German and priced in euros, I just need a total collapse of the Eurozone by December and my evil scheme will come to fruition. Ah hahahahaha.
Peter will be disappointed but at least it looks as though they're going to continue support for what they've done.

Wow, that was really short lived wasn't it?

I guess people voted with their wallets and Microsoft listened. Sad that it ended so quickly.

Perhaps all is not lost.
MS decided to give up of FS a few years back then decided that the time was right to re enter the market in a different way.
As was suggested at the time the MS decided not to go for FS.11. it might well not be a final decision as things had changed and could change back.
MS Flight does show they they were fluid in their thinking and decided to make a comeback. By finding out what the punters don't seem to want and looking at much feedback as to what the FS community at least expect in a future sim might give them a good understanding of what to do next.
And they will...maybe the decision will be to hold off, maybe to get right into it, but they will because they are a business and if it's seen to be something that will prove lucrative they will go for it.
Future FS might well be what the community wants but if it is, it won't be because MS is doing a favour but because it is a source of good revenue.
Perhaps now is the time to speak politely but loud.

So I guess we shouldn't ask "Hitler" to speak.

I' m not really in a position to offer an opinion on MS Flight, but regarding the 'Hitler' link in the previous post,I know that it is a clip from the film 'Downfall' which IMHO is one the best very best WW2 films ever made. The accuracy and quality of acting is superb. This film could only have been made in the German language to be credible. If you haven't seen it yet, please do so.It is brilliant.
Bloody hell, that was a bit heavy compared to my usual postings!

Agreed, 'Downfall' is excellent, and that rage he flies into actually happened when he learned General Felix Steiner had not attacked as ordered. ( Steiner knew the game was up and refused to waste any more lives). BTW I think thats the third time I've seen that clip has been used in a flight-sim related parody.
As for Flight's alleged demise, I can only echo what Brian said - all very quick. I wonder if Microsoft will now poke its head over the garden fence and ask Lockheed Martin if they can have their ball back, mister.

It is sad as it did show much promise. My gut feeling is that Microsoft will leave flight now as I can't see how they can come back from what they've handed over to Lockheed in P3D. To that end I think P3D will be the way things go in the future for the serious flying community, which is maybe no bad thing
