SkyVector worldwide charts

While googling for an iPad app to aid navigation, I came across SkyVector. I think the site's been around for a couple of years hosting charts for the USA but reading the forum it sounds as though they've just gone global in the last couple of weeks. Sorry if this is old stuff but I haven't heard anybody mention it...

It's an interactive aeronautical chart covering the globe that can be zoomed in to great detail and in high definition. There are VFR and IFR hi and lo level charts. It's also interactive with live weather reports and flight planning. Just click/touch a navaid or airport or even a random point on the map to add to the flightplan or get information. The author says it will be updated monthly and the great thing is that it's free.

He's redesigned it to work with iPad pinch to zoom gestures and taps and although it's not an app yet, it's optimised for an iPad browser window and looks really crisp and clear on the iPad3. It'll be an excellent aid for simming. It's got a different address to the PC version.

Thanks Ian, as soon as I clicked on it, I was centred on Melbourne.
Bit scary how these things know just where you are without filling in any data personally.

Hi Eric. I've just checked using Darren's 'Portsmouth to Havant' check. And I'm afraid both PlaneFinderHD and FlightRadar24 PRO both have Portsmouth relocated to Havant. So they must both be using the new 'world according to Apple' maps. I don't know what the answer is apart from holding out with iOS5 as long as possible and accepting Apple's apology

EDIT: of course we could always accept that as Apple is the biggest (financially) Company the world has ever known it might be easier to comply with their view of the world. I shall start a campaign to have Portsmouth relocated as it will probably be easier than getting Apple to go back to Google Maps :S

Ian :)
