Re: HU Two Progs
Thanks Eric
I've been in the habit of missing the 'Heroes of the skies' on it's first outing but Ch5 repeat it at least once in the same week
Did you see last weeks prog about the Lanc crewman who crawled out onto the wing to put an engine fire out as the aircraft was returning from a raid
Wild!! Can't remember hearing this story before which is odd

Hi Dave.I watched that particular episode last night on videotape(yes I still use one!).I have heard this story previously but it was good to see images of those involved. What fantastically brave men.Ch5 have been repeating the episodes on Friday evenings.
I hope that that Ch4 programme is a serious and informed look at aviation ccidents and not just a collection of YouTube type clips.

Oh no - you'll be OK with this one, Eric. This is a plane crash we can sit back and enjoy. They bought a Boeing 727 with the express purpose of crashing it in the desert. Ben might enjoy this bit!Tomliner wrote:I hope that that Ch4 programme is a serious and informed look at aviation ccidents and not just a collection of YouTube type clips.EricT
The two pilots baled out and it was flown in to the ground by radio control from a chase aircraft. Dave might enjoy this bit!
Lots of camera views and bits of crash-test dummies flying about I expect and endless repeats of the best bits with dramatic voice-overs. This could be one to record and keep your trigger finger on the fast-forward button. I mean, all we want to know is where is the safest place to sit?

Re: HU Two Progs
Good Morning,
Seeing that last week on the Lanc it was such a shame that the chap had done 30 ops and did that one with the engine fire and then lost his life,
It reminded me of Guy Gibson VC, after all he went though with 617 Sq Churchill banned him from Ops and sent him to the USA to drum up the war effort, when he came back to the UK he went on a flight over Holland in a Mossie and it ran out of fuel and crashed and killed him and the pilot!, as an aside, unfortunately for me for me i spent ten years or more going every week to Germany with a Truck and used to re-load back from Holland and after i finished on the road i found out that one of the places i went to was only 10k's from the cemetery he is buried in, i would have loved to have gone and seen his resting place,
Sorry to go on , just sitting here thinking!!
Cheers,
Roger.
PS, just read your post Ian, i don't think there is a safe place,it just a matter of luck i would say !!

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.
Re: HU Two Progs
Ian,I think Ben would prefer it to be a 737 or even several of them!

One of our senior safety trainers said he always sat at the back. His reasoning was that he'd never heard of an aircraft reversing into a mountaindodger wrote:...just read your post Ian, i don't think there is a safe place,it just a matter of luck i would say !!

Re: HU Two Progs
I've always believed that too but at the end of the day, it has to be pure luck. If an aircraft flies into a mountain at 500mph, I don't think your chances of survival are any greater at the rear than they are anywhere else. The only difference would be that your oblivion comes a few milliseconds after the chap sat in front.
Of course.. if you were in a 737, you'd want to be at the front and end it all quicker

737s are so tough that they've been known to bounce off mountains! I've seen it with my own eyes!
Oh wait. I should turn on crash detection
