If you mean the smoke, then I would think it does the same as it always has been the chimney for anything running.

Well i can only quote what i read about the queen was that she looks like this every night since she arrived in Dubai. The plan now is to keep her in this location in Port Rashid, which has been closed to commercial shipping and is being redeveloped into a new commercial/residential/retail area. She will be a floating hotel moored next door to the cruise terminal. un quote.

There has always been rumors that she would be broken up but at the moment it looks like she may not,

I have always had a soft spot for this ship and i have always felt that she should have been moored up the Thames like the Belfast, it would have made a great Hotel, but those in the know thought otherwise of course.

I mean, why is she so 'alive' in the middle of the night, not with building work as you might expect, but in a manor more akin to when she was in service

If she isn't connected up to shore power ( and its unlikely such a facility exists at a normal jetty ) then that smoke will be the exhaust from her diesel alternators.

Diesel alternators indeed

I doubt she's on shore power with smoke coming from the stack. As has been suggested, exhaust off the diesel gennies.

She's always been a fave with me too Rog. The new baby.. however more technically advanced she may be can't hold a candle to QE2. Just look at her lines

Diesel alternators. Got to use the correct terminology, ya know. Genny is DC, alternator is AC. So nerrr!

She has moved recently. The original plans for a super luxury hotel ran out of money and for a while her future was uncertain.

Now she has downgraded to the commercial area of the port and will be a hotel of less ambitious plans. She appears to be pretty well self supporting

It would have been nice to see her preserved somewhere like the Thames, in Britain at least, but I doubt there would be money in the long term. Where she is there is more money and a kinder climate.

If she'd stayed in the UK it's possible that even by now she would be a rusting embarrassment

It does produce AC but its rectified to DC
