Sound Balance

Gentlemen,

the laptop I run FS9 on recently crashed.
Lucky me nothing seems lost at first glance but FS seems to have reset itself to default settings. One good side effect is, that my 1-11 now smokes like Churchill or chancellor Schmidt. (Dave, I'm finally sorted!!)

However there's one strange sound issue I couldn't solve panning around the VC:
when I pan 90 deg to the right engine sounds are turning enormously loud - when I pan 90 deg to the left they're gone and only outside atmosphere is left.
If FS9 was a HiFi or Car Stereo I would search for "Balance" or "Fade". But in FS settings I couldn't find anything similar and sound settings only allow a percentage of volume to be set. :dunno:

Any ideas on how I could get that back to more realism?

Many thanks in advance & best regards,

Nick

Nick, I had this trouble some time ago unfortunately I cannot recall how I actually solved this but one thing to look at is your sound system and check also how the speakers are set up, may help in some way. *-)

Regards
Nigel.

Thank you Nigel, I checked but couldn't find anything helpful.
Meanwhile I'm still open to any kind of input.

Best wishes & a good weekend to you all,

Nick

Sound is such an 'iffy' thing in FSX Nick.. moreso than in FS9. I'm seeing issues on my new install I didn't have with the previous install and everything is on the same pc and on the same drive :dunno: It's nothing I can't live with but annoying just the same :|

This can be caused by a problem with the BIOS upsetting the interrupts for sound and video cards. Might be worth checking but beware installing a newer version of the BIOS. :OB:

Perhaps you have the original on disk?

I have come across this problem intermitently on FSX, FS9 and IL2. Particularly with single seaters, but not on anything with a flight deck thus far.

I use Track IR and when looking straight ahead or through gunsights I might have complete silence, particularly with jet aircraft, but turn my head left or right and I get an atmoshperic jet noise.

I still haven't pinpointed precisely where this problem comes from. Is it because of Track IR? Is it in the sound.cfg files? Why does it seem to come and go? Why does it effect one aircraft, but not another? (Realtek sound settings can have an effect on it in IL2, but no effect on other flight sims.)

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has cracked this.

Well, a certain kind of "balance" makes sense. But the way it behaves is just far too extreme.
Panning to the right towards the cockpit center or right seat it gets extremely loud. Panning to the left towards the left hand cockpit window the sound fades completely.
However it's only the engine sound that's affected. Outside atmosphere, cockpit sounds, ATC - all other sound sources work fine...

I still couldn't find a solution - I think I'll have to get used to it...

Cheers,

Nick
