Just one of those things. Faults will show up and cancellations will happen on any type, but when you break new ground by it's very nature you are in the unknown.

There are a lot of electrics on these things ans problem will show up. Important thing is that issues are being contained.

The brake thing is not unique to the 787.

What I'm interested in is when they ding one...bump a gate of a ground vehicle hits it...how to you easily repair the composite??

Despite all these "set backs", there are quite a few 787's in service now and the rate of incidents to flying hours is nowhere near as high as the media would have you believe.

A fleet buzzing arround doing it's job properly will hardly make news.

Does look grim...but that sort have thing has happened before with many types and any problems will be sorted no doubt.

Cracked Windsceens happened. They're triple layered, the centre one being the pressure bearing one. Not overly concerned about that one.

Generator oil leak. Bit more concerning, but not overly so. Could be a manufacturing fault, but it's not a Boeing part.

Brake Problem. Pretty much the same as above.

Fuel Spill. They happen quite often. Usually a refuelling error, remember one happening with a 1-11 at Luton I think when the aircraft was not parked on a level surface. We are not talking about cracked tanks or such, possibly a coupling failed which is more serious, but I tend to go for the refuelling error, unfamiliar aircraft and all that.

Electrical Fire and other Electrical problems. These are the major areas for concern, especially on a modern, fly-by-wire "electric" jet. These need resolving as soon as possible. We all remember the Swissair MD-11, these sort of problems can lead to serious incidents. Air Europe had an electrical fire on a Fk100, didn't cause to much damage but the fire crew did with axes trying to get to the seat of the problem.

FAA would have been involved all through the testing and certification process. They are the responsible regulatory body for the type and as such will be responsible for issuing any Airworthiness Directives deemed necessary, which will require Boeing to take action.

Not saying these things don't happen across the piece, but dumping 40 gallons of fuel on the pan when its not a refuelling error is a bit of a worry (unless of course it was a Lightning F6 in which case it was standard fair )

They definitely need to get these issues resolved asap. I'm a big fan of the jet, I think its lovely looking, certainly the best looking big twin, but there will be user concern at the frequency of these niggles and the significance of some of them.

Cancel refuelling error, it's got all the hallmarks of a surge tank venting. Nothing to write home about, unless your a reporter looking for a story.
