Scenery Question

Greetings All
If this is in the wrong forum feel free to move where appropriate.
I typically fly two different variation of aircraft, one is the old propliners. i.e., DC-6's, Connies and Viscounts. When flying these I use the excellent CalClassic scenery. My other favorite group is the One-Eleven, Trident and VC-10. So the question is - Calclassic scenery is dated late 50s early 60s. When flying my Brits what scenery would you recommend as more appropriate/accurate? The British jets time frame I would guess is around late 60s to the 80s? The Calclassic group seems a bit too early and today's modern scenery seems way too late. Actually DM's Manchester scenery is the only one I know of that is in the right time frame. What would you all recommend when I fly BEA and such?

Hello Mate
You've hit the proverbial nail on the head. With Calclassics scenery, we can just about sneak in the Viscount, Vanguard and Comet.. the Rapide, Dove and the other one you don't have yet, the Heron but to be authentic, to fit the others in we'd need a set of 70's scenery.. 60's-70's. As you say, the only one I know of is DM's Manchester. Ultimately, you may lose the Rapide but the VC10, 1-11 and Trident would take it's place. CalClassic goes up to the early 60's if I remember right so I guess it's better than anything else for the majority of our aircraft.
I've tried hanging on to older versions of UK2K scenery.. I never update the CI beyond what I can get away with so at least the two main airports there are still period (in FS9). I tried the same with the likes of Heathrow and Gatwick but it's true to say that the older versions run worse than the newer ones and visually, they're not a patch on the newer ones.
The bottom line is you have to pretend you're somewhere you're not as well as pretending you can fly anything from a Rapide to Concorde

The only other 'time warp' scenery that I'm aware of for that period is Kai Tak. There was the freeware 9 Dragons for FS9, which is probably still available, and the superb payware FlyTampa KaiTak for FS9/FSX (works in P3D).
That will suit the VC10 and also the Trident 2/3 in CAAC livery. The Hong Kong scenery is dated in the 90s just before the airport closed so there are some new skyscrapers but the airport hadn't changed much since the 70s.

It seems we are in a scenery black hole for the 70's and 80's. One option it seems would be to see which scenery may be closer to the required time frame and fake it with that one. Of course that means testing a lot of packages if you fly to a lot of places.
And yes don't all of us know how to fly a chipmunk to a concorde?

I created Southampton 1988, Hatfield, Wisley and Nicosia around 1970 and had a few other projects on the drawing board but never yet completed. All of these are for FS9 but a person who may not yet wish to be named (because his efforts have not yet come to fruition) was working on converting at least one of these to FSX. I also have Heathrow 1966 in development, again for FS9.
