A thought for Mike W and others West of Brisbane

Hi All,
Please spare a thought for Mike W et al, tihs is our Australia Day long weekend, and whilst the South East of the country is parched and fighting bushfires, Queensland is again being lashed by torrential rain, floods, and tornado strength winds.
They were saying on this morning's radio that one of their major rivers is expected to peak at 9.5 metres, something not seen since the 1970s.
Hang in there, folks, we are thinking of you, and send our best for your safety and well being.

That's a kind thought Mike, thank you.
The places hardest hit are the coastal towns north of Brisbane, especially those on the 'short rivers' where they have flash flooding coming down and a massive tidal surge coming up. Bundaberg (300km N) is looking at a 9.5 m peak level, the highest in 40 years. We got a knee-deep flood which has already receded, but Laidley has a flood as bad as 2011. The catchment for that creek (and ours) got something over 700mm in 48hrs. Fortunately the Lockyer Ck was not blocking back as it did then , so the Laidley Ck did not overflow towards us. So as the combined Lockyer+Laidley flow continues downstream towards the Brisbane River, there will be bad flooding along there, and of course the increased level will be blocking the flow from the Bremer, which means Ipswich will flood badly too, but not like 2011.
Friends in Bundy say they are OK, but a lot of people won't be.
Cheers
MikeW

When I was wee, it was called spume and it was a natural organic substance. Today it seems someone makes a profit from it, because it is now 'toxic'

Or maybe it is just tenure renewal time in academia...

Maybe it's too early in the day for me, but how are people making money from it, Mike?
Lovely word, haven't heard "spume" in years.
Toxic or not, I want to know how that car was driven through it, does he have an instrument driving licence?
Didn't have the wipers going, and how did the engine run under that blanket of spume?
