You just have to appreciate this one. Young people
forget that we old people had a career before we retired...

Charley, a new retiree-greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldn't
seem to get to work on time. Every day he was 5, 10, 15
minutes late. But he was a good worker, really tidy,
clean-shaven, sharp-minded and a real credit to the
company and obviously demonstrating their
"Older Person Friendly" policies.

One day the boss called him into the office for a talk.

"Charley, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do
a bang-up job when you finally get here; but your being
late so often is quite bothersome."

"Yes, I know boss, and I am working on it."

"Well good, you are a team player. That's what I like to hear".

"Yes sir, I understand your concern and I will try harder".

Seeming puzzled, the manager went on to comment, "I know
you're retired from the Armed Forces. What did they say to you
there if you showed up in the morning late so often?"

The old man looked down at the floor, then smiled. He chuckled
quietly, then said with a grin,
"They usually saluted and said, Good morning, Admiral,
can I get your coffee, sir"?

Good one, though not as daft as it might appear. Our local Safeway I only found out the other day employs a bag boy, he must be late 70's or more and works 2 or 3 days a week filling customers shopping carts at the check out. He was a police chief, but since being widowed decided he would rather get out of the house and speak to people rather than fester away. He is a real character.

Do you have Safeway stores still where you are, i know they used to be in Aus but the Safeway stores here in the UK were taken over Six years ago by a company called Morrison's ,

They made us all redundant!

Sorry about the redundances - it wasn't me, I didn't do it!
Americ- sorry Australian Safeway is still flogging stuff, though several shops are re-badging as "Woolworths Fresh".
Between them Woolworths and Coles have something over 70% of the Australia wide retail market; grocery, toys, stationery, electronics, books, plants, hardware, petrol, gambling machines, booze outlets, car servicing etc etc.
It's hard to escape their clutches. Over the last few years, they've decreased brands on sale, offering one global brand plus their own brand in three grades: 'Crook', 'Worse', and 'You must be desperate!'
Then to try and make you feel good, the government lets them import from godforsaken places, chop them up and bag them in Australia, then label it as "Product of Australia" It makes you sick, what they are allowed to do. Don't even start me on the lies that egg producers are up to.
Aldi arrived a few years back aiming to eliminate the competition. Not yet..and they'll be no better.
Globalisation is a term to describe disgracefully wealthy businesses who pay their executives obscene salaries to source "Third World" goods for sale to "First World" countries, while telling them that they are not internationally competitive.
The frightening thing is, that the apparent wealth is a sham, because there are so many layers of pretend loans "derivatives" that I don't think anyone knows the truth any more. The USA is up to its neck in debt, and any real wealth is no longer Western. Food security is a real problem. It ain't locals who own the farms any more. One day, someone will say "Can I have my money back now?" and the feathers will hit the fan.
Until then we'll play with our simulators.

It's a funny old world isn't it. Woolworths in the UK is gone, here in Canada too, and our Safeway seems a pretty good supermarket overall. We get Airmiles yaayyyyy!
