Hiya Mates,

I would presume most are familiar with the passing of comet CL/2011 L4 but it will be making it's appearance
in thee northern hemisphere low on the horizon tonight. ( It's 1530 EST ).
If you haven't.

I hope to get a pic of it especially on this night because it will be the last change to see it moving to it's closest encouter with the sun.

So it could make for a big tail. Oh i hope :|

cloudy in the west though.

This is a non periodic comet and it's last fly pass is thought to have been, 110,000 years ago.

The viewing was prime down under.

this was a once in several life times opportunity to see two in the sky.

I saw it tonight. Popped up Barr Beacon for 45 mins on the way home from work as the sky was pretty clear to the west.

I was a little concerned that someone in the car park would think I was up for a bit of 'canine activity' (lots of it goin' on round these parts apparently), but instead parked up next to the Walsall Astronomical Society outing. Stroke of luck & definitely no funny business going on with these lot!

Sadly only visible with binoculars+ here. Rather disappointing really.
Fingers crossed the ISON comet will really do the biz at the end of the year.

Comet? what comet. :dunno: I've not seen any comet.. :wall:

I have a few more days but... So. Florida spotters who have seen it say it's not something one would notice
as an astrological event.
However, that could be due to haze. If the western sky clears as the sky is above me, I might have a chance seeing it.
My camera has an 840mm lens so that should be powerful enough to see the tail. Although, setting the exposure might be tricky. I should think a time value over a half second, depending on the ISO setting, will produce a blured image.

Glad to hear you saw it Dave M, Not everyone has.
... And I've never seen a real DH Comet. :| :(

... I'm rambling.. :worried:

In other news,. :)

The US will have a total solar eclipse on Nov 8th.
Nigel², lucky chap, will be pretty much right under it.
I'll be under full eclipse, although there might be a sliver of the corona tucked behind the moon.

Dave F,
:)
I have to re upload the photos .. I've been procrastinating because I thought I'd have a pic of the comet by now.
...
As I said I posted them before here , http://www.cbfsim.co.uk/cbfs_bb/viewtop ... =hale+bopp
I made a barn door timer to capture Hale-Bopp,
I made a guessing game out of it and it turned out to be,
AS Dave B. said

That really is "other" news since there is no solar exclipse 8th Nov 2013! The eclipse on 3 nov, 2013 will be visablevisible in a small portion of Eastern South America, Southern Europe and Africa. Sorry to burst you bubble!
