LHR terminal allocations for the late 1970s

Hello all, My name is Edward, I'm new here but have been using FS2004 for quite sometime. I'm in the process of converting my virtual world into the late 1970s. I've completed the AI, but I'm struggling to findout what airlines were allocated to what terminals at Heathrow in the late 1970s.

Id be very grateful if someone could help me with this?

Yours sincerely

Edward

Hi Edward,

Welcome aboard. Unfortunately I'm not the best person to answer your query, but no doubt someone will be along soon.

All the best

Hello Edward. It was a lot simpler then than it is now and the terminals were quite clearly allocated.

Terminal 1 was domestic flights plus BEA (BA short-haul) European flights.
Terminal 2 was all other European flights.
Terminal 3 was Intercontinental flights.

As far as I can remember there weren't any exceptions to that rule during the 70s but if there were, you can be sure somebody here will come along and let us know!

Ian :)

One problem that you may have is that the parking numbers had a letter in front of them like C22 which meant stand number 22 in the Charlie Cul-de-sac and there were a whole alphabet of Cul-de sacs...Now the stands are just numbers and you will need an old chart to find the old ones :)

Edit...I do have an old chart that I could scan for you...It is for the year 2000 and would be fine if you just ignore Terminal 4 :)

Hi Edward.Don't know if it would help but I have a copy of the Esso Guide to Heathrow from 1968 which I scanned in sections for somebody a while back.If you want to PM me your email address I will send you the scan.Best wishes EricT :)
Edit.. This was produced as a pamphlet and the scan is only about 8 pages which I have zipped.I'm pretty sure that it shows which terminals the airlines were using at that time.

Hey guys thank you very much for the help :) Ian that's just what I needed to know thank you. I didn't want to go too in depth as Im just using the default airport but I have re instated Rwy 23 and removed all the parking and taxi ways from T4. Its not perfect but it does for me :)

Peter and Tonliner thank you very much for your kind offers of charts.

I shall modify LHR accordingly now :p

Edward
