ZD241 Bruntingthorpe VC10

Hi All

Had a nice day out at the Bruntingthorpe Cold War Jets open day on Sunday.
Very excited to find ZD241 parked out the front rather than the scrap yard. Other than one missing engine, looking perfect.

The man with the microphone announced that, although not yet officially signed up, ZD241 is going to be added to their collection.
They hope it will be doing a run at the next open day at the end of August.

I had a wander over to the scrap yard too. XV108 & ZA149 still in decent shape, minus engines. XV106 no wings or undercarriage.

Thanks for sharing Dave.
Very nice of the bystander in the foreground to squat down so as not to obstruct the view of the nose wheel.
:)

Am I right in thinking that one used to be BOAC/BA G-ASGM? *-)

So during the cold war it would have been in gold speedbird livery...

Just saying

Yup.. ZD241 was G-ASGM in another life. It was used during the Cold War as a Spy Transport

Well, the Russkies thought so! :agree:

Unfortunately I didn't record which VC10 I was on in the late 70s when we were intercepted by a Soviet Mig over Bulgaria and escorted off the premises :-O

Ops patched the skipper through to the Foreign Office so that he could give them a blow-by-blow account while they made the necessary diplomatic protestations

It could have been Golf Mike. Why not? But it would have been in RT livery by then - so perhaps we won't re-enact it after all :worried:

Ian :)
