Heir to the Throne (not a joke)

With all the focus on the new Royal baby recently, there was a very interesting letter in The Times yesterday.

The media have been building up about how Prince George will become King after his great grandmother, grandfather and father - a nice neat line with perfect monarchical figures to fit the bill.

But what if.....

As the Queen looks like living a while longer, Prince Charles is getting older. What about the not impossible event that he should pre-decease his mother? The line of accession would then switch from his line to that of the Queen's second son.

Yes, if Charles should die, Air Miles Andy would be heir to the throne - not William. And heir to King Andy? Princess Beatrice of York under the new law of primogeniture.

The line of succession, and indeed the Monarchy, isn't as secure as people think. Fate could screw the whole thing up in an instant

Hi Folks

Ian
I don't think thats correct.

It's the line, not the sideline, that matters.
Andy was 4th, and is now 5th.

Why am I even replying on this subject. :S

If it is true, then, given the changes to the rules on succession and girls, surely Anne would get it now?

Hi Paul. Thanks for the link. However it does say at the top that the line of succession will change as a result of deaths, births etc. I'm not an expert by any means, but Times letter writers and the editors are usually very accurate. If the writer was incorrect then I would have expected a couple of letters of correction in today's paper but there aren't so I suspect it is true!

Ben - the new law allowing female descendants equal access to the line has only just been introduced and starts with Kate and William's child so Anne remains behind her brothers.

It think it does look likely that it's a possibility. Not that it will matter to me but I can't see the Monarchy being as popular as it is now with Fergie's offspring on the throne. I'll bet Andy would remarry her and she'd be Queen consort Fergie or something

Well - remember you heard it here first, folks

Ian :)

There was a docu not so long ago which highlighted an Australian man who claimed he was a direct descendant of one of the early Edwards and he was rightfully king. but for some right royal shenanigans.
Can you imagine a king Bruce! :S

If I could give less of a dam I would... But it's physically impossible. Utterly underwhelmed. The best headline though was from Private Eye.... "Woman has Baby"

Brilliant :welldone:

The wiki link shows 49 persons in line for the throne. Do these people have jobs or do they make their living being Royals? :dunno: Just curious.
