Classic British Flight Sim

Doesn't seem more than a couple of months pass between problems I have with AVSIM. It's the place I usually look to see what new stuff is about, as it has for the most part, been the easiest to look through and get files from.

Each time they tried to change it in the last year or two it seemed to get worse, though. But now I go along and find that it says only registered members can see any of the site. I am registered and have been for years - so I put in my log in info - same as I have for years - and it won't let me in. "Not recognised" apparently.

So I put in the forum log-in info instead, but same deal. Rejected. Anyone else having this problem? I won't register again - if that is what is required, when I had no issues with the registration I've had since 2005, then I'll be leaving it for good in that case. imho it wasn't broke, so why does it need to be changed (again)?

Of course, I'm not 'in the know' so it may have had to be changed (would have been nice to know in advance) - but not accepting the log in details? Have the hackers been at it again?

I did the 'sign in' and then followed the forgotten password link. 2 emails later I'm in.

Think I'm going to bin it, though - it's only a matter of time before the next problem and it's about the third time this year I seriously considered going elsewhere. I'm switching to Flightsim.com and Sim Outhouse. The downloads are considerably slower, but I dislike making payments or donations to sites and then feeling buggered about.

CombatAce is just as bad - how many huge downloads I've had broken off at over 80% due to "can't read file on server" errors I can't remember. I used to pay their subs and it made no difference to the service. Then they recently 'updated' their server and we lost access to the files for about 6 weeks or so and now it's often slower than dial-up. If they weren't the only place for Third Wire mods I wouldn't go there at all. Not to mention the lambasting I got for saying I didn't like Razbam FSX stuff. I got a priority pm from admin 'requiring' me to go back to the forums and explain myself. Was then told that it must be because I'm not a 'serious' simmer and just don't appreciate the better products!

Beggars belief.

The notice which comes up when you go to the Avsim page is very badly worded. It looks as if your registration has been lost, but in fact they only want you to sign in. The 'auto login' thing stopped ages ago.
All I do now is go to the 'What's new in the library' link at the lower left side, and when I click that, up comes the login screen with the details already filled in by my browser, so I just press Enter , and in we go...

I'm totally stumped!

As I'd deleted my AVSIM bookmark, I entered it into Google, which came up with the half dozen different parts of AVSIM, so I clicked on "Library" and when the library search page came up, I clicked on "What's New" - and it showed me 16 pages worth, stating at the top of the page "Logged in as Varsity" (which is my user name there).

HUH???

Did I nod off - is it April 1st? Someone is playing silly beggars.
