HS748 start problems

Hi

I just downloaded Rick's 748 with FSX upgrade. It is a brilliant classic and flies superbly with a fairly easy to learn autopilot.

However one problem is that I can't restart it after shutdown. I have read a number of threads around speaking of the engine start and tried to follow those as well as the checklist provided.

One possible culprit might be that my HP cocks don't move. I place the mouse top and bottom of them and the "hand" shows to indicate they are movable but they don't move!

I noticed there is a rapid start button in the icons but I am unsure what it does and what panel state is necessary to use it.

All help most gratefully received! ;)

Out and about at the minute, but there's something in the back of my head about needing to restart from the 2D panel, not the VC. I might be wrong though.

Hi Tony

Are you using FS9 or FSX? Either way you should be able to re-start engines OK in FSX, with the mouse don't try to move the fuel levers by grabbing them but point the curser of the mouse ahead of the fuel levers and when you click the mouse button that should send the fuel lever to the open position. That way you should be able to start the engines.

Hope this helps and if it does not some-one else will be able to offer you advice.

Regards
Nigel.

Is it this that has to be loaded into 2D for the 3D to work properly???...or something like that *-) ...the rapid start replaces CTRL E which does not work with these panels due to special starting codes.

Thanks guys for the help so far.

This is in FSX.

I have managed to get all the gauges and knobs working by first loading a default TWIN stopping the engines then changing to the 748. Unfortunately however no matter what sequence I try I can never seem to to start the engines. I managed to get one started but not the other at one point.

I have a feeling there are some fundamental problems with this aircraft in FSX. The only way I can use it with my VA , which demands opening our PIREP with engines off, is to do this then swop to a Beechcraft, start the engines and swop back again! Hardly perfect but the only way I can seem to use this aircraft.

Shame because its obviously a brilliant aircraft developed with a lot of care.

Hi Tony,

There are definitely no fundamental problems with it as folk here have been using it in FSX for years. The rule with all non default aircraft is to have FSX start up with the default trike ultra (don't start a flight with it, just have FSX start up with it as the default aircraft) and then create your flight from there. Have you tried switching to the 2D panel to start the engines before going back to the VC? If you can tell me how much fuel you're loading etc and which airport and weather conditions you have set I'll try and replicate it.

If you open it in the VC, just pop into the 2d panel and then you can go back to the VC and all will be working. That's how I do it anyhow.

Yep, just tested, real world weather at EGNT and full fuel, followed the checklist from the 2D panel and all worked fine. The only thing I can think is that, depending on your display resolution you may not see the HP cocks properly in the 2D panel, so nip to the VC to make sure they are in the OFF position before attempting to start the engines. :)

Thanks for all the help guys but I had to give up yesterday as I still couldn't get it started.

I have managed to work the HP cocks ok and other gauges by starting up using the default Beechcraft as recommended in one forum. However I try to follow the 2D checklist and for some reason either it wont start at all or somehow I get one engine to start and not the other.

Just to confirm I start with the default Beechcraft, shut down the engines in that then use Select Aircraft to go to the 748. Am I doing something wrong there. I follow the entire checklist though I when it speaks of Fuel Trim I am unsure what action to take. Would this make a difference?

Hi guys again!

I have spent another day trying to get this started normally without success. The first problem is that even when I get the starboard engine running the starboard/port changeover switch in the engine starter panel is frozen as is the starter push button! So no possibility of starting the port engine. I have tried waiting a while in case its locked out whilst the starboard engine runs up but no joy.

Even when I "cheat" and change aircraft to start up both I get a double engine failure after about 20 minutes!

Either I have something wrong with my download or I am doing something in the wrong sequence. If someone could just run through the exact start up sequence for me so I can check this out but at the moment I can't see what it is and I don't want to give up on this aircraft.

Many thanks

Tony
