Best update notes ever....

Post by J0hn »

I hope it's okay to quote this - the latest patch for an alpha game I play through Steam (I know - yuk! but if you can't beat 'em...) was released yesterday. Today I checked the release notes for said patch and was very amused to find this statement:
Made game less shitty.
How's about that for honesty! EA, MS - take note!!

You've intrigued me, John; what "alpha" game is that?
And 'scuse my ignorance, but do they release "alphas" before they put up the "beta" version? Or am I WAAAY off track?
Cheers, Mike.

This is, I believe, an indie developer who makes several games. This particular one is being developed after a kickstarter-style campaign (where interested parties - mostly potential customers pledge money to support a proposed software development programme, whereby if it reaches a preset target sum, the development goes ahead and if not, the funds are not taken).

Its - wait for it - a zombie survival game! Yup - yet another one. Before anyone who knows thinks it's just another DayZ rip-off, the campaign for this game was started before anyone knew about DayZ, so in this case it really is just a coincidence. I liked the survival challenge aspect of DayZ, but it has changed into something else since. This one is, imho, heading in a better direction.

It is very much an alpha - very basic textures, physics etc - but it is playable (barely) though there are loads of bugs. The emphasis is very much on survival in this, rather than the standard zombie type games, in which you tend to find military assault weapons all over the place and it all descends quickly into a shooter.
Yes, Mike - after this comes the beta phase. Normally, the public wouldn't get to see the alpha phase at all, but it's release is funding the continued development, and the earlier it is purchased, the less it costs.

If you look at the very last entry (just before the bold "Known issues" subtitle) for the new patch in the blog section, you'll find the 'improvement' I've quoted. :)

Thank you John,
There's another cool fact to impress the younger generation with.

Good point Keith, it could have been like "Tower", but you stand on the platform waving flags and blowing whistles for locomotives. :agree:
Cheers, Mike.
