AVSIM being a pain again

I've lost count how many times I've had issues at AVSIM - yet all I ever try to do is go along and see what's on the main page and perhaps try to download a file now and then.

For a week or two now, the main page refuses to show itself, insisting that I am a 'guest' and that the limit of guest visitors has been reached - so it is recommended that I either register with AVSIM or come back later (to the same notice - as it's there every time I visit). If I try to log in, it always shows my log-in details as incorrect.

Yet, on each of those occasions I have used a direct link to the library and when it opens I'm shown as logged in - with the profile name I've had there for about 7 years (Varsity).

Also, if I visit the forum and log in (though I don't post there, after the rude welcome I got a few years ago) it works just fine. Oh - that's with the separate profile registration it insisted I make for the forum. Wonder if there's another one required for their new-ish store and yet another one now, for the front page?

Yes, that must be it! A fresh registration for each section I wish to view. Why didn't I think of that? Genius...

AFAIK the Forum and file library are seperate registrations

That's part of what I'm getting at - I have long since registered for both and now the news page is asking me to sign in, even if I am already signed in to the library or forum - and won't accept either of those to log into the news/main page.

Well, with the arrival and relative success of P3Dv2, I think I won't bother downloading any more stuff for FSX. With moving and backing up all my data ready to move to my new PC, I see I already have filled a 160GB USB drive with my downloaded stuff on its own - 7zipped up. There's a large part of that I have never even got around to trying out, so enough is enough. Unless something comes along that is an update for an add-on that I already have, I'm calling time on new stuff for FSX, and deleting AVSIM from my "OP" bookmarks.

Time to look to the future :agree:

AH right..sorry misunderstood

To be honest I never go to Avsim unless I really have to. I've never felt comfortable there. Underlying atitude and a sense of unfriendliness have never made me want to go into the site with any keeness or wish to hang arround.

It's useful...sometimes, and for me, that's about it.
