The Herald had a long and complicated history here, although that had nothing to do with the aircraft itself. Omar Fontana was the man behind Sadia (later Transbrasil) and he was often at odds with the government, something that didn't help his case. He logged 243 flights between Sao Paulo and Rio during the two years that he was fighting to get his import permits.

In the end the Herald had a reasonably successful eleven year career here, despite the loss of PP-SDJ in '67, and is the aircraft that is always associated with Sadia. Omar Fontana loved British aircraft and later part-exed the Heralds for One-Elevens.

Off topic I know , but In the sidebar for this, was a wonderful film about a restored B29 flight at Burbank. It shows amongst other things just how horrible the view is from those glass domecockpits , and at 28 mins the lowest approach I've seen in quite a long time - note the filling station where they could have filled up as they were passing !

VASP also ordered the Herald

The ordered ten series 700, the only order for that marque.

Financing stalled and the deal collapsed just before HP did. The aircraft were largely manufactured, but assembly had not yet begun.
