The End of the RAF TriStar

Just read on another forum that The Tristar was due to make it's final mission today...24 March and the four remaining airframes to be flown to Bruntingthorpe on the 25th for scrapping
I can't confirm any of this at the moment.

Saw a report on BBC South Today. 216 squadron (which flew the Comet) will be consigned to History.

If i may, It's great to see the P-C3 Orion still plying her trade after 50 yrs, not many aircraft i can think of that are still doing that.

I've been thinking the same thing Roger.I think that the Orion was a variant of the Electra which I always thought was a quite nice looking aircraft.However I seem to recall that the early Electras could suffer from structural failure may be due to spar problems.However I'm sure that someone much more knowledgeable than I will be able to clarify this.

Yep, they had some wing failures on the Electra that was fixed but the type lost sales as a result.
The C-130 and B-52 are two examples of long lived types as is the C-/KC135. The C-130 is still in production.

But the C-130J is now obviously a new build and up-grade, so not the original airframe.
The VC10 managed 50. And plenty of Dakotas still knocking around.

True but there are plenty of original C-130s knocking around, certainly this 1958 example was still going strong 50 years later and may still be.

That's a lovely looking Herc, seems its last flight was 2008 though, not sure where it is now, although it still seems to be registered to Cherry Aviation Services. Last flight that shows on Flight Aware was to Alexandria Intl.
