Just been watching this interesting documentary on the wonderful Bristol Beaufighter

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psUvAUw37D8

And thought...wouldn't it be nice to fly one in FSX/P3D.

And lo and behold...there's one here in the file library! Dave Garwood you are a god of flight sim addons thank you :D

And rather good it is too  A bit heavier on frames than the Mossie but not a problem unless you fly in a squadron of em

Isn't the Beaufighter's epithet 'Whispering Death' one of those popular apocryphal tales, and in truth, the Japs never called it any such thing ? A bit like the Germans allegedly calling the P-38 'Fork-Tailed Devil' ?

Paul!
What are you doing to me, mate?
60 years ago, Airfix modelling taught me nearly everything I knew about aircraft. That included the two nicknames you have quoted.
I was chatting to a 90 year old mate on Monday, and he confidently repeated the Whispering Death story.
Where did you hear that we were being peddled lies? :(

EDIT
BTW, the introduction of words like woot, w00t etc, may cause a great deal of >< among us older readers. :S

"And rather good it is too  A bit heavier on frames than the Mossie but not a problem unless you fly in a squadron of em "
Which you could try with the freeware "Formation" add on. :agree:

Glad you like the Beau  It's one of my favourites. I actually prefer it to the Mossie :worried:

Not so much lies, Mike, as myth and legend. ;) Whispering Death could be true, but I've read it was an invention which caught the popular imagination and gained currency. A bit like the Angels of Mons, I suppose. Or the rocket-armed Typhoons over Normandy, which, according to post-campaign analysis, often weren't as effective against German armour as was claimed at the time and ever since. Then again, there's a story going round that I'm a miserable revisionist, and that could be true too.

Myths and legends of war - discuss ! :)

Dave G - yes, time to reinstall your Beaufighter in P3Dv2. Its been a while !

It's really great! You get my vote, Dave!

I just wish I could do some real damage with it - now that would be extra fun!

I used to fly the one in IL-2 Forgotten Battles as a mission fave, but it's nowhere near as good as yours.

JOhn,
Yep, we have some home-grown beauties, to be sure.
There's "Weapons for FSX", that looks like you're doing something, for next to nothing. If you actually have money available, there is a sophisticated weapons system that's been discussed on this forum (name escapes me at this instant), which apparently actually does damage. In late 2013, it was only available to buyers of an F35 as an add-on. It was said that it was to be released stand alone. At the time it was out of my wallet's comfort zone.

I did have the Beaufighter working with the Captain Sim weapons pack, but wasn't really flexible enough to integrate how I wanted.
TackPak is much better, but doesn't have suitable weapons, mainly the torpedo, as it's aimed at modern US hardware.

Apologies for the "woot!" although I' m 49..no spring chicken myself

Also wishing I had some cannons/rockets to fire at the autogen in P3D!

Super version of the Beau. Really enjoying it thank you.
