Scotland's independence; any thoughts, chaps ?

Post by Paul K »

By the end of this week, thems of us north of the border may well need a visa to post here at Classic English, Welsh and Northern Irish Flight Sim. Not only that, but their IPs will stop them watching all the good aeroplane stuff on BBC Iplayer. Two reasons enough to vote 'No'...though I'm not sure I can think of any more. What's the the consensus amongst our Scots members...yay or nae ? I'm in two minds. The Brit in me, who constantly reminisces about when this country was great, would hate to see Scotland go. However, if I were a Scot, or even English living north of the border, I'd be awfully tempted to cut loose from this now-benighted land and build an alternative future. It must be an incredibly difficult choice for a lot of people up there - quite a step into the unknown.

One thing you can be sure of, however; we're gathering the stuff together to get the Scottish Air Force off to a fine start :-

I think if it goes YES then it will just cause bloody chaos and if it goes NO then it will soon be forgotten...For that reason alone I hope it goes NO :)

We are very stressed over this referendum issue and as we are English we feel that a yes vote is akin to stabbing an old friend in the back.Up here ,we have been exposed to this ongoing debate for over two years now.
Things are turning nasty now as tempers become more frayed.
I think that a yes vote will be a disaster and could lead to a Socialist Republic of Scotland if the more extreme Nationalists get their way.
Whatever the result,a bitterly divided country will be the outcome, particularly if the result is very close.
I think the the likes of Salmond and Sturgeon are the smart suited relatively moderate faces of a very nasty bunch of nationalists.
It is difficult to believe that so many people intend voting yes without have any idea of what sort of a country they will get and are prepared to dismiss all the warnings as scaremongering co-ordinate by the English tories.
Leaving here to move back south would mean leaving our only daughter but that's what we may have to do,assuming that the bottom doesn't drop out of the property market.

I think, although to many it would seem a good idea, Scotland just isn't big enough to go it alone.

It has excellent bits and pieces of what makes a modern country tick but does not have a full set.

In a time where many nations need to work closer together and share resources, to step outside the box is not a good thing at all.

As Peter says it will be bad if yes but soon forgotten if no

If no then the whole exercise will have been worthwhile as it will have demonstrated why it is better that way.

Sadly, if it does go yes then there will be no way back... and uppermost in my mind are my Scottish friends here and elsewhere are not going to have their lives shattered by a poor political move.

Like you Paul I'm in two minds. I believe that Scotland could be viable with the right governance; however I don't believe the SNP will provide that governance - I can see financial disaster looming. However it goes it will leave a terrible short to medium term legacy of a very divided people.

I think if it is No the SNP will come back demanding more referenda until they get a result acceptable to them.

Can't wait to be rid of the b@#gers ! I am sick and tired of the disproportionate influence which Scottish MPs have had on policy affecting the rest of the United Kingdom, particularly over the last 50 or so years. I also cannot see why Scottish MPs should have the right to vote on legislation which is nothing to do with Scotland, whilst our MPs are deprived of a reciprocal right. Sadly, I think that the No vote will prevail with a substantial majority, and the status quo will be preserved . The only good thing is that perhaps we will hear less from that revolting second hand car salesman in a greasy suit who keeps popping up everywhere at the moment

Indeed but they've been promised much more should the vote go to NO so I can only see that situation getting worse!
