Classic British Flight Sim

Well, I can die happy - I saw them. And listened to their song, and sighed when they flew away. I wouldn't have missed them for anything !















Having not bothered to buy a program ( why did I need one ? I knew what the main act was ) I was then gobsmacked to look out to the east and see Oil Spill Response's Boeing 727 G-OSRA coming to play. She did several passes, and finished off with a high speed low pass and a zoom up into the clouds. It was spectacular!














But lets not forget the aircraft that keep us entertained all year...




All in all, one great day at Duxford.

Dave, what time did you get there and how far did you have to come ? I was up at 5.30 am, even though I only live 7 miles up the road. Just as well too...we got into the Meadow car park at 7.30 and later on I heard someone say the gates had closed at 0845.

Oh, and can you move this thread to the Gallery, Dave ( if more appropriate )? Sorry, had a 'Duh' moment there.

Joe, you're right. Actually it was leaden cloud for most of the afternoon, and surpringly cold too. However, as if on cue, the clouds lifted and there was a lovely expanse of blue sky just in time for the Red Arrows' display, right at the end. It just couldn't have been more perfect. Gawd, I love aeroplanes.

I was up at 5:30 too
I live just outside Luton, so it's about a 45-50min journey. Pulled into the Meadow about 10 to 7. Already quite a lot of cars in there. Then had to queue for tickets. Just as well they opened the ticket booths early. Was on the airfield by 20 to 8.

Excellent Dave, glad you made it in. I took a retired friend with me who hadn't been up and about that early on a Sunday morning in 20 years. He later agreed it was very well worth it.

Same for me got in about 7:50 after leaving Bedford at 6:30. Great sound of the 10 merlins and spectacular.
The B17 stopped opposite us and ran up his engines which drowned out the spitfire sounds when they did their display. However he did move as the 2 Lancasters came back.
I had to leave shortly after to be back home so missed the 727 and Red Arrows.

On the plus side I was home within an hour of leaving, including getting out of the car park.

Your pictures are very good Paul. Mine were not to that standard. I did go on the flight line walk and got some good ones of the two JPs and the Spitfires with the crews dressed in period costume.

Thank you John. My camera is not well suited to the distances of airshow shots, but a click of sharpening in PS9 helps compensate.

Unfortunate that you missed the 727; she really was a treat to watch. I believe she was at Waddington's show earlier in the year, so maybe she will become a regular performer on the airshow circuit. Anyway, you saw the Lancasters - that's the main thing, eh ?

The Dakota came over in the evening at the usual ridiculously low and absolutely delicious altitude, on it's way back to Coningsby, but we didn't see anything else.

At least one Spit entertained us today, too, along with either another one or a Mustang - couldn't tell from the angle I was looking, but the underside seemed far too light to be a Spit.

To think I live just about 20 miles from the BBMF and yet haven't seen either Lanc since the Canadian one arrived, is a bit weird!
