Discovered this today, and it has helped me already, with installing stuff to P3D. Will also help for a number of other things.
LINKY
Trust me - it's well worth a gander, regardles of whether you use P3D or not

Good link John - a more straightforward explanation than others I've seen. I use this methon to save space on my SSD. Another advantage is that if you do find yourself reinstalling P3D from scratch all the files in the linked folder remain and it's a simple task to recreate the link.

That went way over my head re the usefulness. Seems an awful lot of trouble in just creating another shortcut. Maybe I'm just dim.

It's not actually a shortcut in the popular sense, Alex.
It is kind of a route to a folder, which saves you having to go there, or shows a programme the way to a folder (even though the programme may 'think' the folder is something else).
You could think of it as 'forwarding address'.
You can also use it to send files to a storage folder. When you want the program you are using to stop sending files there (for whatever reason) you just delete the link. That leaves all the files intact, in the folder.
When you want to use it again, you just make a new link.
Try looking here to see if it's clearer for you:

Damn I hate you, this involves some serious reading. I promise I will give it a go, but the concept is evading me, it`s late, and I`m recovering from a coronary (seriously). Yeah came as a shock to me too!

Sorry to hear that, Alex.
I'm sure this will help you through!
Well, it might take your mind off it, at least

If im correct in thinking you can do this with your My documents, music etc folders, I relocate those to a separate HDD instead of the OS HDD as I have loads of files and photos that would use up the OS space. It basically like folder redirection, the folder appears to be located C:\FOLDER but is actually D:\ETC\ETC\ETC\FOLDER, all you do is browse an installer to the C:\FOLDER path and that redirects to the D:\FOLDER. However I find that adding the P3d and FSX folders to the library list(Vista +) is an easier way to install stuff instead of browsing through folders.

No biggy (he says after the event), I was up and about 1 day after the procedure albeit slowly, been 3 weeks now and back to normal apart from diet. Never want to experience that pain again though.
