Garry , I'm slow I'm afraid ... Narmal fer Narfick .

P.S. All fire trucks are called '' Dennis '' .......our airfields is and he's a Land[y] ...............rover . [ for our westward cousins ] . Mind you the grass cutter is pulled by 'Massey Ferguson'.
Not sure if that's Northern Irish or Canadian ?

Proving it works , just before the foam tank blew off ..

The foam maker is a cartridge of mostly Bull's blood , and 3 years on a pig farm did not prepare me for being covered in foam maker !

Hi Davef. As you are no doubt aware, when pigs give birth, they "farrow" so there's a name connection. A long time ago, I worked for a fire extinguisher company called NuSwift as a service engineer. The foam type extinguishers were filled with water, and in the top was a bag of Bulls Blood, which was forced down by compressed air through a sharp blade when the plunger was depressed. Why Bulls Blood? It is very high in protein, which produces the foam.

NuSwift, as you ex matelots will know, was the only manufacturer to have their products on RN ships. A proud company boast. I don't know if that still applies.

Den.

Hi 511 , Deputy Boss used to be a Naval Air Engineer ... not sure if she was a matelot tho' ... After the blowout she fettled the foam unit and Dennis was back on duty inside 1/2 an hour .
Maybe Dave b and others can inform us ; are there such things as lady matelots ?

They look hot in them suits.... :$ .... :wasntme:

Quickly changing the subject... cough.. bull blood? I'd have never guessed in a million years..
This is some special processed stuff? No health issues I'm sure was a concern, how did the notion come about ...
Very, interesting subject matter.

Keith,

Went to the tube to watch Les, and found even more with Shirley Bassey.
;)

Anyway, ... the accent thing, if I remember right, the trick is all in the vowels.

But what do I know :dunno:

There are now Dave but not in my day (I left in '89). Back then.. girlies in the mob were in the WRNS (Womens Royal Naval Service) which was.. believe it or not.. a separate service.. eg, not quite the Royal Navy. It was virtually impossible to separate the two mind you. The WRNS came to an end in 1992 where upon the girlies became full members of the Royal Navy and all that this involves including QRRN (Queens Regs) and going to sea :)
