A PEEK INSIDE THE AVRO HANGAR
The work proceeds apace
The latest model on the floor is the venerable Avro Avian from the '20s & '30s. This is perhaps a neglected model in the Sim world being overshadowed by the Tiger Moth.
This latest project is an attempt to redress this wrong .It's very much a W.I.P. and there's still a long way to go.
Cheers

It's err.. an unusual subject Dave. I'm not even sure I've heard of an Avro Avian before I think I need to stay in more
Looking good thus far

Old sailors never die.. they just smell that way!
Re: A PEEK INSIDE THE AVRO HANGAR
Didn't someone fly one to Australia back in the day? I seem to vaguely remember that there was an attempt to recreate it in either a restored one or a replica a few years back.
Best,
Myles

With a nose reminiscent of the WWI Halberstadt.
Good choice, Moly
I don't know if you've already seen this, but it may help you to check one or two bulkheads; http://www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=3487

Re: A PEEK INSIDE THE AVRO HANGAR
Thanks Mike - a useful plan for further study.
Yes Dave, little heard of but as Myles remarked - it was flown to Australia by one Bert Hinkler in 1928 on the first solo England to Australia flight (G-EBOV). Furthermore Amelia Earhart flew solo across America and back in 1928 establishing a record (G-EBUG). There were other succesful long distance flights and records made in the machine making it deserving of preservation if only in the 'Sim afterall there were over 400 built .
Cheers

Re: A PEEK INSIDE THE AVRO HANGAR
My school headmaster had an Avian in the 1930s . He was flying it at the time his second daughter was born in 1937 and so she was christened Avian !
Re: A PEEK INSIDE THE AVRO HANGAR
Glad to read that I'm not the only one to have heard of the aircraft.

Re: A PEEK INSIDE THE AVRO HANGAR
It's been some time since I posted anything about the Avian project, so...
The aircraft is essentially finished apart from the all - important flight tuning work. This is now in progress
'down-under' by Brian. I'm left with a bit of sweeping up before I post the aircraft here for beta testing.
I don't think I've mentioned it before, but, it is built for FS2004 but will also perform in FSX.
Cheers

That's nifty, Dave!
May I ask which Brian is "down-under" ?
Or is it a secret?
