Warbirdsim and A2A P51 Remote Compass?

I’m a big fan of the Warbirdsim and A2A P51s and fly them regularly, but I've never quite understood the use or benefit of the remote compass gauge.
Can anyone enlighten me please?

The Hawker Hurricane also had a large round compass in front of the control column, and a heading indicator as part of the standard six instruments, for the same reason; gyro drift.
