The EU has just announced that with immediate effect all Euro notes will be printed on Greece proof paper.

Alex..
really
You have to feel for those poor souls but while they seem to put full blame on the international banking community (of which some blame must be attributed).. surely successive Greek governments have had a large part to play in mismanaging the Greek economy

Jumping on the EU gravy train was never going to be a free ride and to borrow huge amounts of cash with no possible hope of repaying it was always going to end in tears.
I'm sure your announcement will please them no end

Love it, Alex!
Kick 'em while they're down!
One of our Greek mates was saying last night that Greece was encouraged to build infrastructure, then Germany (etc) sent in "experts" to carry out the work, then carry off the cash back to where it originated.
Lenders and borrowers both have a responsibility to keep loans manageable, and it looks like nobody followed the basic rules.
If a bank lends money to an unemployed homeless man, there can only be one outcome, as Dave said.

What I hate most in all this is the panicky money men. Doom is always around the corner for them and they are never happy. If the pound is strong they panic, if the pound is weak they panic.
It affects me hugely as I take a pension out of the UK. Last Friday I arranged my monthly transfer of funds I was getting $1.88 for each pound. Today it is $1.97 since the No vote. That is a big loss of cash for me. It could easily have been the other way around depending on how the financial men react to events.
So p****ed off.

I don't know if it's true or not, but a report on our national news said that if you owned a swimming pool in Greece you are required to pay taxes on it, and only 2 people in Greece have admitted to owning a pool!!!

Alex, Have you got that the right way round? I'm better off in France at the moment converting my UK pension pounds to Euros as its gone up slightly to 1.41 Euros to the pound, it was down at 1.39.

Yes Keith, my thoughts exactly.
I'd rather get $1.97 than $1.88 any day.
Alex, you'd better check your bank account.
Just a thought - maybe Alex wanted to buy something a week ago, and needed the money, but this week he doesn't.
