Classic British Flight Sim

Had a look at Eddsfield today after taking flowers to Octon.. Believe it or not, though having flown into/out of there in flight sim, it was only recently with photo real scenery that I realised exactly where it was.

I had in the past seen a Giro-copter and the odd Cessna going in and out of what I thought was a farm strip.

Reason for being in the area is that we have Joan's ashes in the Columbarium at the East Riding/Octon Crematorium and I regularly go there with flowers.

There a "low flying aircraft" signs both ways, and I had often commented that if I was in any danger whilst driving by - the aircraft and crew were right in it as there are really high trees on both sides of the road.

Had a walk round and saw G-CBIJ (Ikarus C42?), G-BFTH (Cessna Skyhawk?) , G-BEVC (Socata Rallye?) and HB-CIV (Cessna Skylane?).

Unfortunately, there wasn't a soul about to chat to. Just a peacock and peahen which didn't seem too pleased at my being there.

Was it 'open' Graham or did you just wander in unchallenged (except of course for the Peacock and Peahen)? If they'd have been serious about 'guard birds'.. they'd have had geese!

I've been meaning to have a look around for several weeks now Dave, but the weather usually turned as I was returning home.

Got absolutely drenched last week.

The entrance was open, but at 16.00 I had probably missed anyone who had been present. The "C" caravan and cafe were locked up tight.

I did read a report some time back that they were a very friendly bunch. A pilot reported that by the time he taxied in, the tea was mashed. Fuel priced at £1.54 (incl VAT) according to the notice on the window.

Must go earlier in the day next time and make a nuisance of myself.

Graham, I'm sure that they'd be delighted to chat to you, birds of a feather and all that. Oops - I was referring to Aviation Enthusiasts and nothing to do with geese or peacocks

Called in today and after searching managed to have a chat to "Ed" himself (been working on a few jobs at the back of the control van). I now have his permission to take photographs.

He said they were mob handed yesterday, bu most had probably gone to Sutton Bank for the Vulcan fly by.

One of my Mess members had been at Elvington today and they had been treated to four fly pasts.

Mashing tea.That's a term that I don't hear up here Graham.I'd assumed it was a Midlands term but it obviously it's also used in Yorkshire.My guess isthat it's less common among younger folk.
